How often have you thought in your most private moments: “I am the boss, they expect me to have all the answers! I must have them or they will no longer trust me!” Honestly now, how often do we really have all the answers? Would it not be better to admit that perhaps sometimes we don’t have the answer and asked the right people for their insight and help?
That is the purpose of developing a strong peer support group. There is a value to being able to access the insight, knowledge and experience of people we trust and who understand our goals and our concerns. That is what makes AA, Weight Watchers and other self-help groups successful. It is also the principle that drives affiliation initiatives in the business world.
Would it not be great if we empowered our people, kept them focused on the right goals and objectives and motivated them to help each other achieve these goals and objectives? Wouldn’t that be a great help to them – and as a consequence to us – in identifying obstacles, breaking barriers and achieving professional success?
